The Faculty of Hydrocarbons, Renewable Energies, Earth and Universe Sciences of Université Kasdi Merbah Ouargla is organising a Study Day on the occasion of World Water Day 2026, to be held on Tuesday 21 April 2026. Under the theme "Water Resources in Southern Algeria: Challenges, Innovations and Perspectives for Arid Zones", this event brings together researchers, academics, engineers and experts to discuss the major challenges facing water resources in the Algerian Sahara. The programme includes keynote presentations covering four scientific axes: hydrogeology and groundwater engineering, new monitoring technologies, the history and heritage of traditional hydraulic knowledge, and water governance and public policy, as well as interactive workshops, a poster session open to the university's researchers and doctoral students, and a school art competition dedicated to raising awareness among younger generations about the value of water.
